False security is contrasted with authentic righteousness by Dr. John Hartmann in this poignant message taken from Jeremiah 7.  God’s message through Jeremiah, John the Baptist, and Jesus Christ echo throughout human history to the present time. Human tendency is to take solace in the external forms of righteousness while neglecting the actual deeds Almighty God calls all people to obey. Luke 18, Romans 1-2, further illustrate the plight of humanity, and especially the propensity for self-justification.  Authentic righteousness is contrasted with fake religious contrivances. God does not leave humanity hopeless. The Blood of Jesus has been shed for human cleansing, and God in Christ through the Holy Spirit grants empowerment for righteousness. An exhortation to be genuinely filled with the Holy Spirit is brought forth.
