Dr. Hartmann begins with the proposition that when God purposes a thing to do that is in his Heart, no one can stop Him. The question arises, what does God want to do and what is a reasonable response in light of His powerful purposes. Dr. Hartmann looks at Psalm 12, which states that the groan of the oppressed is heard by God, and in turn triggers a delivering response by God, according to scripture. Reliance upon God’s faithful Word is encouraged. Psalm 127:1-2 is used to show that people must align their households on the Word of God and His intentions for security and rest. The vanity of endless labor is outlined. God’s absolute sovereignty is evident from Psalm 103:19 and Daniel 4:34-37. God gives amazing examples of His ability to raise up and humble the powerful, to demonstrate His sovereign power.
