Praying in accordance with the Covenant as a house of prayer

January 25th, 2009 · No Comments

James 5 and 1 Kings 17 describe how Elijah prayed according to the covenant for the judgments of God on the land. We as the house of God are likewise to engage in similar types of prayer as the people of God. Serious aspects of the covenant are recorded in Deuteronomy 28 & Levetics 6. Characteristic elements of praise, proclamation, and prayer at the house of God at the time of the dedication of the temple by Solomon when the glory of God fills the temple and fire falls consuming the sacrifice are explored. Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the temple indicates he has an eye towards the future by asking God to show mercy to the people when they violate the terms of the covenant. In light of the covenant keeping God described in Psalm 103, it behooves us to look at the history of God’s people.  Then, noting the terms of the covenant, act and pray in accordance with its terms.
