The Preparation of King David

August 8th, 2008 · No Comments

This teaching draws out lessons from the narrative of the life of David recorded in 1 Samuel 16-31. Dr. Hartmann describes how God prepares people for leadership. These timeless truths are resounding themes in the unveiling of Salvation history.

This teaching primarily outlines 1 Samuel 16-31 that deals with the preparation of David to be King. The text naturally divides into three main categories.
1. David has favor with Saul in the role of psalmist & warrior
2. David falls into disfavor with Saul starting in 1 Samuel 18:6. This is primarily due to the Spirit of the Lord departing from Saul due to disobedience. As jealousy and rage settle in Saul’s heart Saul attempts to murder David on more than one occasion.
3. David then becomes a fugitive due to Saul’s murderous plots and relentless pursuit.
