The Conversion of Cornelius

August 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Acts 10 records the conversion of Cornelius. He was a Roman Centurion, which means he was a commander over 100 soldiers. More importantly he was a God fearing person, and he practiced things that became a memorial before God. He was devout, prayed to God continually, and did alms.

Such practices are a key theme in Jewish wisdom literature and teaching and are given as proofs of authentic piety. Even Daniel advised Nebuchadnezzar to practice such things to possibly avoid judgment Daniel 4:27. Of course Alms, prayer, fasting are the same things Jesus commands in Matthew 6. These practices are in stark contrast to much of what is called Christianity in our day.

In this message, Dr. Hartmann exhorts listeners to aspire to such a life, and exhibit authentic repentance, which is required for true salvation.
